Introduction:
NIIT is a part of the HCL group which has a big presence in the Indian infotech industry. The Indian computer education industry is now worth around Rs. 6.5 bn. NIIT has pioneered the computer education business in India by creating a nation-wide network of training schools. There is a strong marketing focus with the company tapping uncharted overseas markets to expand the training business with the help of local business partners. Courses have been designed for special segments like computer illeterate mothers / senior citizens. NIIT has around 650 centres, out of which around 50 are owned. NIIT had a head-start of more than 2 years over Aptech.
The management has come up with absolutely new employee benefits like dating allowances for single employees, etc.
The management has guided NIIT from a pure computer education company to a developer of computer-based training tools and finally to a software services provider. Educational multimedia titles are developed for clients on a fixed-price basis. The company has graduated to selling its own educational multimedia titles through a network of distributors abroad. The company now has a bank of 195 educational multimedia titles created in-house which places it among the six largest educational multimesdia developers in the world. It is among the first 20 global majors to receive Multimedia Supercorridor Status in Malaysia. This transition up the value-chain has been managed very effectively with the company managing excellent growth in all its business segments.
The management has a big emphasis on quality. All the aspects of NIIT's business have ISO 9000 certifications. The company is now busy implementing Crosby's Complete Quality Management System at all its locations to provide high-quality, zero-defect service to all its customers.
NIIT is the first company in India to adapt the Economic Value Added (EVA) concept as a measure of corporate performance. Around four hundred front-line managers at NIIT have been trained in EVA to extract maximum resource productivity at their respective business areas.
