Introduction:
Lehman Brothers Holdings is a global investment bank having a closely integrated network of 39 offices anchored by a worldwide headquarters in New York and regional headquarters in London and Tokyo. It offers investment and merchant banking services, as well as underwriting fixed income (bonds and other debt products), equities, asset management, institutional sales, and private client services. In addition, Lehman trades stocks, currency, derivatives, and commodities. The company is known as an aggressive trader.
The firm was established in 1850 by Mayer Lehman and was acquired by Shearson /American Express in 1984. In 1994 the firm was spun off from American Express Company and became an independently owned public company, which resulted in a reconstruction period that included substantial staff reductions. The firm has been trying to gain prominence since then among bulge-bracket investment banking firms with good results in fixed income area.
